US Director Supply Chain  

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The US Supply Chain Director is accountable for key supply chain programs encompassing inbound logistics through to the end customers’ distribution warehouses, and associated improvement and compliance implementation. The role is responsible for ensuring that all distribution compliance and security requirements are adhered to; implementation and maintenance of robust processes, cost management, performance monitoring and issue resolution are key. Conformance to the short and longer term DSCSA requirements is a key deliverable. The position is accountable for ensuring Alvogen’s 3PL supplier performance consistently meets business requirements. Continuous improvement programs to reduce ad hoc issue resolution and drive improvement of customer service levels with minimum inventory, at the lowest costs and in full compliance of all relevant regulations and standards are critical.

ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE

The US Supply Chain Director is based in Alvogen’s New Jersey office and reports directly to the Vice President US Supply Chain, based in Malta. The person will have four to six direct reports in Pine Brook in Import/Export Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Projects, and is accountable for managing the relationship with Alvogen’s logistics partner. The position works primarily with the Commercial and Customer Services teams as well as cross-functionally with IT, Quality, Research & Development, Project Management, Legal and Regulatory.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary responsibilities of this role include the following:

  1. Implement a culture of performance management, operational effectiveness and standard work across the US-based supply chain operation, including the distribution and warehouse network and commercial operations
  2. Building a robust Logistics partnership structured to support Alvogen’s future growth and develop a longer-term supply chain logistics strategy, to include: a. Track wider industry standards and trends to ensure adherence to standards and industry best practice that will benefit Alvogen. b. Conduct transport modeling and develop an end-to-end S&OP process to balance transport costs and supply continuity/inventory levels c. Trending of temperature deviations and damages with associated CAPAs; implement improvements accordingly
  3. Conduct analysis and implement relevant business continuity and risk management programs across the supply chain
  4. Develop and implement a supply chain serialization strategy and readiness program for 2023 compliance, drawing on all relevant functions to meet program timelines
  5. Develop a holistic program of project and improvement programs to ensure the team is structured to respond quickly and efficiently to day-to-day issues to maintain supply continuity. Manage and lead a dedicated team of Logistics professionals, developing and mentoring talent
  6. Develop and maintain supply chain SOPs to ensure all key processes are documented and submitted to the quality system (QUMAS). Includes creating, updating, documenting and training. Ensure supply chain processes comply with regulations that apply to Alvogen’s business model
  7. Ensure all supply chain security and compliance requirements are met based on best practice and regulatory requirements
  8. Responsible for ensuring all Logistics requirements are met for current and future business needs based on forecasts, new product launches, and acquisitions
  9. Adhere to acceptable standards of business ethics and integrity, and comply with all federal state and local laws, rules and regulations in all aspects of business always;
  10. Maintain compliance with Alvogen quality system, rules, procedures and guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of broad-based Pharmaceutical Supply Chain and Logistics experience, including Operations and Logistics experience in cold chain, controlled substances and Biopharm products
  • Evidence of strong team leadership and developing talent, managing performance and ensuring optimum team size and structure
  • Demonstrated experience of serialization implementation/program management
  • Lean six Sigma or other OE qualifications application of the tools to drive efficiencies across the supply chain
  • ERP system experience (strong preference for SAP)
  • Project management skills and experience, including new product launches
  • Thorough knowledge and demonstrated experience of US Import, Export and transportation regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience of managing and building strong partnerships with Logistics Service Providers, including negotiating contracts and pricing, and driving improvements and cost savings along the supply chain
  • Budget preparation, cost accounting experience
  • Strong data analysis, data management, and quantitative skills.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Operations, Supply Chain, or equivalent
  • APICS certification

The US Supply Chain Director requires both broad and thorough experience of pharmaceutical supply chains and an understanding of associated distribution requirements, with clear evidence of having resolved issues and implemented improvements in previous roles. The individual has in-depth expertise and experience managing Logistics Service Providers (LSPs), and a detailed understanding of Import, Export, distribution and transportation requirements both into and within the United States. The US Supply Chain Director proactively takes accountability for tasks; demonstrates flexibility and initiative; leads people and improves processes; comfortable working both independently and in a team environment and is adept at prioritizing responsibilities and managing multiple tasks. This position requires creative problem-solving abilities, strong communication skills and the ability to negotiate towards positive outcomes with a broad range of people and at all levels of the organization. Cross-functional leadership and motivation of personnel and external partners is crucial. Developing and growing talent from within the team is a key aspect of the role. The individual is expected to review processes and identify opportunities for improvement and must be able to understand contract language and negotiate favorable terms for the company. As the representative of Supply Chain within Alvogen and the face of Alvogen externally, professionalism, credibility and integrity are critical characteristics of the individual.
